Here's one of my photos from the Mara Triangle last week.
Part of an absolutely epic morning which included amazing elephant interaction, brawling leopards, a lioness almost taking out those leopards while brawling, a hippo chasing a lioness, and a dusty crossing.
This part of the morning drive was focused on some mating lions. The male however, was more interested in a herd of wildebeest that had moved into the marshy area south of them.
Soon he got up, moved over to them with intent, eventually stalking, and squared off with a wildebeest who had ignorantly been rolling around in the mud, unaware of his approach!
It didn't end well for the poor ungulate...

Wildebeest spectators: smiley
"Is that Bob?"
"Not sure man, looks like it could be Willie."
"No, dude, that's gotta be Bob! He's always getting into trouble."
"If that's Bob I will go first at the next crossing, dude!"

Techs:
Nikon D800
Nikkor 400mm f2.8G VR
f5.6 | 1/1250 SS | ISO-2200
Bit of a crop (approx 40% of original image), offroading is not allowed in this marshy area of the Triangle

A heck of a moment.  Gotta love the audience watching the action.

I understand you probably didn't want to crop too narrowly, vertically.  This one feels slightly bottom-heavy to me.  Not sure what the possibilities would've been to include a little more above than below...

I actually like the positioning in this crop.  It draws your eye instantly to the action, and then you notice the spectators in the back.  What a morning you had!

Thanks guys

Max - I can play around with crop on some of the shots in this sequence. There is a treeline directly above where I cropped on top so the OCD guy in me would rather then have all of the treeline included eh?

Morkel, I would've opted to do the same in that case.  Would much rather have nice clear canvas like you have here!

Sounds like a good morning.  Can't wait to see the rest of it.  Just amazing.

Hi Morkel,

Max's original comment about loving the background audience AND the image feeling a bit bottom heavy absolutely mirror my first thoughts when looking at the image. Without seeing what the background treeline looks like in the frame I can't say which crop choice I would prefer, but this one does feel to me like a shot where grounding the main subjects (lowering them in the frame) would have worked real well.

Glad to hear you had such a great morning...

Cheers...
