Cooper's Hawk
by Dennis Plank
This Juvenile visited us yesterday morning and appeared to be totally undisturbed by my presence. It's been back a number of times today to the utter dismay of the goldfinches that are trying to feed youngsters at the feeders. I don't really think it's figured out the whole hunting gig yet as Goldfinches were landing within a few feet of it and it just sat there. This was one of those times when I was mentally cursing the shadow that the hawk was in only to realize later that if the sun had been on it, I would have had to walk at least 20 feet into the yard to get a decent angle and it probably would have flown.
I chose this shot from quite a number of keepers because I think it expresses that youthful curiosity that seems to be present in nearly every species.
7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 468 mm, hand held, f/8, 1/200, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped from a horizontal to 8.1 MP with arbitrary proportions (2662 x 3065). Taken yesterday (August 6th) at 6:35 AM.
Comments and criticisms are very welcome and most appreciated.

Excellent behavior shot of this young Hawk, the large version is very enjoyable viewing and the overall composition works in all respects. I'm not sure why you travel so much with these kinds of opportunities in you own back yard but I'm glad you do.
Well done . . .
Really nice work with a cool looking Hawk.
