This Great Egret just finished up the morning hunt for breakfast at South Cove in Old Saybrook, Ct.  The photo is cropped by 30% and I made some shadow, clarity and vibrance adjustment to it in Lightroom 5.

Nice action shot. I love the pose in flight. You captured the moment perfectly. I just think the vegetation in the background is distracting from the main subject. If it was blurred more (with a lower f/stop), the bird would have stood out more against the backdrop. I am guessing the distance between the bird and that grass is not a whole lot, but maybe a lower POV could have helped as well. Good shot though.

You certainly have nice detail on the egret. I agree that the background is a little distracting. Perhaps you could do a tilt shift blur in Photoshop and soften up the image a bit.

Hi Hrishi & David
I was about 60 yards form the Egret.  I brought down the vegetation and that helped bring out the Egret.
Thank for the comments.

I like the launching down-wing pose of the egret, Peter. I think you did well with the back/side lighting. I think darkening the background a bit will help here.

Nice take-off position, Peter and a good job on the exposure.  It looks like the focus was on the wing, though usually at f/8 and adequate distance for this species that doesn't matter much.  However, the head does look a little soft.  I might be tempted to try toning down the highlights in the bg.  Oops.  Just noticed the repost-much nicer.
