Devils at Night (E-7)

I took this shot in Devil's Garden a couple hours after sunset. I did some light painting with my headlamp, but I believe this shot was only moonlit (crescent moon). I brightened the stone figures considerably in pp. I had hoped to shoot the Milky Way (something I never get to see or shoot back home) but it clouded up again after I shot this and before the MW rose, so this was the best star image I got. Guess I'll just have to go back. It's certainly an interesting place at night.

That's an awesomely dense star field behind those two pillars.  The colors in the pillars and the rocks they stand on look great.  There's a distinct lack of noise for an iso 3200 shot.

I know you planned on shooting the MW, but this turned out to be a pretty good Plan B, Scott. The moonlight on the pillars looks perfect and the sky filled star field is awesome. This is just a personal preference, but I could see that one bright spot on the left pillar toned down just a touch. Either way this is a winner.

This is beautiful. That sky looks awesome. There is a small meteorite, ISS, or something trail peeking out from behind the left hand formation.devil

Very creative approach and I like the wonderful contrast with the star filled night and illuminated rocks.  For me this is one of those images that work going vertical or horizontal.  Nice job in seeing and lining this shot up, well done.

I don't know much about night photography, Scott, but I know when I see something I like.  I agree with Ed, about the cloning or burning the bright spots on the formations, but minor stuff.  Really nice job on this.

Scott, What a great looking night shot you made here. I like this alot without the MW and I just love looking at all those stars. The moonlight looks great and the few clouds also add a nice feel to this. I do agree with burning the bright spot on the left tower just a bit. Nice work!!

This real nice, Scott. The color and textures in the rock and the dense stars look great. I wonder how a crop from the top would look--just for experimentation's sake? Well done!

A milky way would be over the top, but the view here is a nice one and well processed. I might ease up on the contrast a tad.
