Purple Finch

This is actually a composite image.  The finch was taken a couple of days before the sky was taken at about the same time of the evening.  Unfortunately, by the time you get enough lens to get a decent sized image of a songbird, the sky behind them is completely out of focus and pretty uniform in color, so I decided to cheat and take a picture of the sky with some nice white clouds in it to replace the original sky.  This is the result.

7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 546 mm for the sky and 600 for the bird.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 9.7 MP before resizing for the web.  The Finch was taken on June 30th at 8:02 PM and the sky on July 3rd at 7:52 PM.

Comments and criticisms are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,

No! Not a composite!  Nicely created. I like the perch the finch is on.  TFS

Dennis, your compositing looks good.  The details in the bird (seen best in the large view) are excellent and it stands nicely against the clouds and sky.

Nicely taken and put together for the WC, Dennis. The bg complements the bird, and I think you did well to shoot the sky at the same place and time, making the composite exceptionally natural.
