Pumascape

I kind of hoped I'd have a few opportunities to photograph the puma of Patagonia with a wider view of their mountain homes, but I wasn't sure it would happen.  One time, at least, it worked out, when this female got up and went out for her afternoon hunt.  We were able to move parallel to her as she walked rapidly through the grass, perhaps searching for guanacos or other prey.  When she crested this ridge I switched to my shorter lens to capture her with the mountain in the background.

I opted for monochrome in order to emphasize the shapes and tones in the scene.

Max,
Great capture and composition, what did it look like in colour?

I like the image, but not sure it needed to be B&W.  Also would like to see the color version.  Thanks for sharing.

Really nice Max. Perhaps you could post the color version. We are all curious.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.  To be honest, I vacillated a bit on color vs. black and white, but I ultimately leaned toward the basic tones and lines emphasized in the monochrome.  The color is not bad, as the foreground and puma work well with the bluish sky and mountains, but for some reason it didn't appeal to me as much.  I certainly would have been helped had the puma opted to move the other direction.

It does not surprise me at all that folks would prefer the color, since it was a close call personally.

Cool presentation.  In a perfect world, I would want the cat to be a body length to our right for optimal compositional impact, but this is still engaging enough to become a wall hanger.
