Driving around Solio Game Reserve in Kenya, we spotted these two rhinos who at first just seemed to be looking at each other. All of a sudden the one with the long horn charged. I realized I was witnessing something unique from so close by and wanted to take advantage of the closeness by bringing the action very close so grabbed the 500mm lens. This way I wanted to emphasize action, blood, dust and fury.
White rhinos are usually quite social and complacent, but sometimes territorial issues just have to be sorted out. In that event, a large horn is definitely an advantage, as the wounds of the rhino with the broken horn clearly show.

12 commentsA very dramatic and compelling shot - well done. The dust and action obviously dominate the shot, but for me that single clear (but bloodshot) eye is the icing on the cake. Love the tight crop here...
Cheers...

PS: Something I've been wanting to ask you for a long time - I notice you often end your comments on others images with the word "grt". What does that mean? Sorry if that seems like a dumb question, but just curious!
@ Brad: sorry about the "grt" if that doesn't mean anything to anyone
I'll try to remember to write something that means something next time
Thanks again!
And greetings
Ingrid.
No worries at all about the "grt" - purely my ignorance in not knowing and now that I DO know I like it! Feel free to use it as you normally would!

Great action and atmosphere n that sparkling eye is indeed icing on the cake, as Brad puts it.
