Sandstone Moss

This moss with spore cases growing in a sandstone alcove was from a trip in June 2009 to atop the Paria Plateau near Page, AZ This was was my first time there and was also my first weekend trip solely just to take photos as a beginning landscape photographer.  Exploring this area of sandstone anomalies was interesting and fun. Made a few newby mistakes on that trip like wrong ISO, f/stop, keeping the VR on while the camera is on a tripod, not using a release or exposure delay, and ruined skies with a CPL.  Still learning, making mistakes, and enjoying the Paria Plateau ;-)

This is a beauty, Doug, the pink striped background adds a lot as does catching those spore cases.  I sure don't see any "mistakes" here.  enlightened

Wonderful lines, colors and textures in this unusual looking moss. Looks very good for a "beginner!"

Doug, the shape of the moss to me immediately depicts a turtle.  My only suggestion is to allow a bit of "lead in" for the subject. This is a great find sad

Way cool, Doug. I've never seen this kind of moss before and the spore cases are very interesting.  You have an excellent composition with the sandstone lines running through it and the two patches of moss making a nice diagonal across it.

What a wonderful little wilderness, Doug. I could also see this as a square crop although that might put your watermark a bit too close to the subject matter.
