I was driving with my wife along Highway 101 on the Oregon coast--shortly after sunset on a foggy evening. We came to the overlook at this lighthouse. One could see the light beam reflecting off the fog. It was spectacular!

Camera: Nikon D100
Lens: Sigma 70-200 mm f/2.8 Zoom
Exposure: 1/10 at f/5.6 and 165 mm focal length

OK...OK...Richard...I will be honest that I am not really usually a lighthouse fan. In rare cases where something about the shot is amazing then I am drawn to them...LIKE WITH THIS ONE! That beam is stunning! Great job capturing it! This is beautiful. No nits here.

Richard: My absolute favorite lighthouse on the planet. I spent many summers in Yachats about 10 miles north of here. The capture of hte beam is wonderful. A classic place rendered in a refreshing way. ><>

Richard,
This is gorgeous! It looks almost like a Thomas Kincaid painting.

Richard..this is a winner! The light beam is obviously the topper for this image and I really like the red roofs on the lighthouse and buildings. Would love to have a "touch" more saturation to enhance the light beam and the red roofs....not a major nit and certainly this image stands on its own without the suggestion. Great capture!

Thanks, Beth for the suggestion. I spent a LOT of time working over the picture in Photoshop. We all have seen lighthouse pictures where the light beam is obviously added and WAY to bright. I didn't want to go there, so I increased saturation as far as I could without making the light seem fake. I DID go back and increase saturation on the red roof and that does improve the image!

I have had difficulty with resizing my images for display here. This image is no exception. The original files looks quite a bit better on screen than does this file. It also is very nice printed. Resizing a 50 MB image to 125K or less isn't easy if you are trying to maintain some sort of quality.
