A Wet Rhino

A large male White Rhino comes out from dense bush looking wet after a heavy downpours somewhere in South Africa. The light conditions were extremely low so a high ISO  for the camera used was required. Surprised I pulled off with such a low shutter speed.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II  -  EF100--400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM  -  1/40sec @ f5.0  -  190mm -  ISO 640 <div> </div> <div id="myEventWatcherDiv" style="display:none;"> </div>

This is a very sharp image.  Amazing that it was taken at 1/40th sec.  And you managed to get reasonable DOF even at f/5.  It's nice to see a rhino wet from rain.  Most images are from the dry season.

I love the angle of his approach and the lighting.  Yes, detail is excellent!  In a perfect world, I would have wished to see the feet.

Wow!  An excellent shot of a super-endangered species.  I don't think I've ever seen a shot of one in the "bush" like that.  Very nice.

Mario: very well done considering the situation. Seeing the animal wet and in the bush is a nice break from the usual sightings in the dry season. Given your concerns about high ISO, maybe it's time to consider brand N. enlightened Richard
