Mountain Bluebirds were negatively impacted by the invasive Eurasian Starling, a cavity nester that out-competed Mountain Bluebirds for natural nesting cavities. In Idaho, Al Larson, the Bluebird Man, has erected hundred of bluebird boxes. His "bluebird trails" create manmade cavities, with the hole too small for Starlings to enter and armored against hole-expanding Northern Flickers and other woodpeckers. The program has been very successful, and Idaho's state bird is now reproducing in good numbers. Sometimes humankind can at least partially undo the harm it causes.

Late evening light. Cropped to vertical; slight adjustments to Levels; selective sharpening of bird.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Jim,

a very nice image to document the provided story. The light conditions are very fine and that highlights the bird. Technically it also looks good. I may have tried to rotate the image a bit clockwise to compensate the tilt.
