I shot this at the beginning of my interest in photography. At the time, it was the best comp/image I thought I had taken. There were issues with a few smudgey water spots I didn't realize were on the lens. Also some processing issues too. So it was never printed and just fell into obscurity in my archives. I always wanted to get back and redo it. I did that last November.

North Falls, Silver Falls State Park,
D800
24-70

Thanks
Chris

I like shots like this a lot. The forest on the right leads in nicely and the colors look good. the bit of fog adds a lot.

Very nice image, Chris.  Glad you made it back for a redo.  Well worth the effort.  I like the comp a lot. At first I was thinking it's kinda like two images, one of the forest and one of the falls.  The more I enjoyed it, the more it blended in my mind.  I could see myself standing in that spot with a big smile.

Really nice image.  The tension between the 2 halves works well for me.

Awesome comp, and love the conditions with the fog and autumn leaves. The right side looks a little soft to me, not sure if thats DOF or compression (or my eyes hah!)

Real nice Chris. This kind of has a Lost Planet feel to it,  like a dinosaur will come charging out of the mist.

Oh yes, this is an amazing image. It truly is. How did you get the mist to part like that? Lol. Things fell into place for you. The processing is flawless. The foliage within the trees still has a luminescence. The only difference between this image and your current work is that this doesn't seem quite as sharp to my eye. A really excellent image.

I'm glad you resurrected this one.  It is a beautiful image, and I like how it has been processed.

Nice comp, and the overall mood really speaks to Oregon winters.  I shot this about five years ago, but more t the left.  Now I wish I'd seen this comp.

This is very nice, Chris. It reminds me strongly of some of your forest images from Yosemite. I like how the waterfall is peek through the mist, and I love the color palette. The processing looks spot-on.

Nice move putting the fall in the background of the frame. I think this works well here because of the richness of the foreground.

It's a lovely look at the forest and the waterfall.  My initial reaction was also thinking that this was a split image, but the trees on the right and the falls + clouds on the left make a great near/far combo as well as telling a complete story about the location.  The combination does a fine job of putting me right there, hearing the birds, feeling the damp, and enjoying the fall colors.

Hey Chris,

Great to see a post from you!  A beautiful image.  I really like how the fog/trees frame the falls; but also combining with the forest rally gives the viewer a sense of place.  Nicely crafted.

I would agree with some other comments that I think the trunks on the right seem a little soft?  Or more accurately lack a little detail? Not sure if it's a sharpening thing.  But it's not too bad.

Hey, great job resurrecting or replaying this scene.  The question I have that no one has asked - Where's the before and after??  I'm also not clear if you returned to the location and re-shot - or you reworked the original file?  No matter, it's still a great image.

Okay,  this is not the original file. I might post it later, when I get home. The original comp is nearly identical. Shot in the spring with a 10mp d200. This one here was shot in early mid November, with my d800 and a better lens.

I agree about the softness on the right. It really is the right most trunk that is a potential issue. I have not printed it yet, but don't think it will be a deal breaker. I might crop it off, but don't really want to have to.

I did have my gear in for cleaning and diagnostics after that trip. The lenses checked out. The camera did require some repairs to correct a back focusing issue!

I'll have to check, but I was wide open, or very nearly so also. That may be contributing.

I do plan to start focus blending on my future work. Old habits seem hard to change. I do like the single frame process!

Nice balance here between both sides of the image. I like the colors. Good exposure. Pleasing composition.

Love it.   Could see some more wb work as the greens in the fg seem a bit off and perhaps slight more contrast for pop (but thats to taste).  Great copm and conditions!
