One Foot Landing

Gallery: Weekly ChallengePosted April 16, 2016117 views5 comments
This was one of a number of eagles feeding off of winter kill fish on ice in a slough. I never noticed the missing foot until it was on the computer.
Nikon 810, 600 mm, f8, 1/4000, ISO 800.

Ross, the details in the Eagle and how much of the frame it occupies are very good.  There's also a fine sense of intensity in the bird's stare.  What I'm not sure of is how this shows the struggle between changing seasons.  And then it dawned on me, this is a post to the damaged goods theme and because I was tired when I posted that, I forgot to indicate the dates.  The weekly challenge runs from Sunday to Saturday.  In this case, because I should have included the dates in the forum post, I'll consider your entry as being within the correct time window.  Please accept my apology for not being clear.

Hello Ross,... Looks good! The eagle  seems to be in good health and able to feed on the fish , maybe more on shoreline fish than in water stuff?

Thanks for sharing

This is really nice, Ross.  I've seen lots of other birds with a missing leg, but not an Eagle.  I'd love to hear it tell its story.  If this were mine, I think I'd put the eagle on a separate layer and then blur the bg a bit to reduce the noise there.

Nice catch. Wonder how the bird lost it's foot - and survived it. It appears healthy and well-fed, non-the-less.
Congrats on the EP!
