Giant Blue Iris
by Bill Leggett
These beauties (Iris giganticaerulea) generally bloom for 1-2 weeks in April, and are quite common in and around Jean Lafitte NP. The blooms are about 5-6 inches across, and grow on stems 4-6 feet tall. I go over there every spring with these as my target. I found these early yesterday morning along a boardwalk in the town of Jean Lafitte just south of the national park under calm conditions, cool temps and nicely filtered natural light.
