Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted March 26, 2016192 views6 comments
I have to admit I've gone a little bonkers lately with a 50mm lens and extension tubes, rendering abstract macro photos with lots of circles in them! I don't know if there is enough in focus to rest the eye in this one, but I'm curious what the folks in the macro gallery think. It's a little on the Photo Art side, I know. Taken after a rain. I used some effects in Nik also.

Thanks in advance for any comments or critiques.

Hi Kathy, i like the shot (a lot) and see no reason why it couldn't be posted here ;-) ... certainly an interesting (positive sense) abstract.  I Like the blue and green with the flares.  My personal taste ;-) would be to push the contrast a bit more and to desaturate the background a little (to loose the brown tint) and to darken left edge and upper corner (bringing more emphasis on the blue/green parts of the motif) ... but as I said, very very much personal taste and the image is certainly very good as is!
Cheers, Mark

Kathy, I think the sharp area along the leaf works fine as a focal point.  The lead in of sparkles from the lower left is great and the big, slightly oof drop and green leaf add some fine extra interest.  For me, the surroundings of oof sparkles add a playful sense of joy.  My one thought would be to try views where the sharp area is not so centered and see how they "feel", but that's not a criticism of this view, which I like very well.

Kathy ..I love these kind of images . Just wondering why this is a square crop. The 50 with extn tubes works wonders on water/ dew drops. There is a defenitely a point for the eye to rest here, and more over the image works as a whole. Nice work

I very much like the idea of this image. For me the green leaf is a bit of a distraction. But the droplets are great. My suggestion is to go a bit more parallel to the central twig as to even enlarge the effect of the out of focus droplets.

Hi Kathy

Nice to see you got into it! I don't know if you've tried using the 50mm full open? Your bokeh will then be rounder.
Congrats on the WP!

Ingrid.
