Take 5

Had a close spot for big waves crashing along the jetty and the stack. I was playing with exposure length and timing, trying for an ethereal and mystical look that long exposures can provide. I like the gray tones. Taken 20 minutes after the sun went below the horizon. SoCal is still waiting for that El Nino to arrive, this storm scene, eventually dropped about an inch. Was not raining when I made the photo. Open to suggestions for a title. Critique and comments appreciated.

My kind of image! My only suggestion would be a slight crop from the bottom to lose the small pebbles in front of the larger rocks in the llc. Otherwise this is spot on for me. Some might suggest adding som contrast, but the gentle feeling of this is what I like.

There are some dust bunnies in the middle part of the sky btw.

Stephen,

You most certainly accomplished your goal of going for an ethereal and mystical look; the sea mist creates a great atmosphere and the longer exposure works beautifully here.

I think the inclusion of the larger rocks in the corner works as well.  My rule is, that if you're going to include something in the frame, make sure it's on purpose - and you have enough of the larger rocks to let the viewer know you wanted them in the frame.

Nicely done.  Oh, ditto on the bunnies - minor, but you should clone out.

To me this is a romanticists look at nature. As though it possesses supernatural god-like qualities. The large rocks IMO diminish this image. I would crop to above them. So what if the horizon is centered. The rock is centered as is. Maybe crop off a bit off the left.

Artistically and expertly taken, Stephen. I like the effect of the slow ss to go with the gloomy sky. Like Igor, I might have preferred a comp without the rocks in the llc, if that was possible, but I would not crop the image as I like the overall balance and format.

I like this a lot! I love the colors and that misty mood is wonderful. Very nicely done!
