Tree Bark

Place: Boyce Thompson Arboretum, Superior, AZ
Date: October 25, 2015, 9:45 am
Equipment: Nikon Coolpix S8000, hand held, @ 24mm (equiv 133mm on FF 35mm)
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix metered, ISO 800, 1/50th @ f/4.6
Jpeg, Tweaked in PS CC 2015 on Mac, full frame

Just for fun.

I was leading a birdwalk at Boyce Thompson Arboretum, and I didn’t want to deal with my serious camera gear in addition to my duties, so I brought along a tiny Coolpix camera I’d rescued from the local Goodwill store. I was quite surprised by the image quality from such minimal gear, taken in auto mode and hand held.

Honest critiques requested; all comments appreciated. Larger image for critical review.

Bulls eye!  Richard, I like how this image is focused on that little limb scar and the pattern radiating out from it.  The leaves are a nice touch of "spice" on a great pattern.  As a very minor nit, I do think you might tone down the brightest  area around the scar just a touch.

That is a fun photo.  Well seen and I too like the touch of green in the corner.

This is really cool, Richard.  Using the knot as the center of the image really worked.  That's a nice little P&S.  I'll have to keep my eye out at the camera bin at our local Goodwill.

I like the radiating lines in the bark from the knot. I'm on the fence with the green sprig. I also like the hint of blue. That little camera did a nice job!
