New Born Calf

Canon 1D-X, 500mm f4 x 1.4 TC
f5.6, 1/400, ISO800

The calf was born about 15 minutes before the photo was taken. Mom was licking the calf to encourage him to get to his feet. Which he did after about 10 more minutes, and after half a dozen tries. That's wasn't quite as photogenic as this moment. South Crane Creek Road, Washington County, Idaho.

Cattle grazing has devastated much of the sagebrush steppe through the intermountain west. But it's not this calf's fault.

85% of full frame. Attempted to correct for the funky light from the blowing drizzle. Slight sharpening.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Hi Jim,

This is a good comp as presented.  You were able to get some nice depth to those blacks.......................Jim
