Pounce

Lots of foxes in Yellowstone as Max pointed out. This one is "mousing" in Lamar valley. He actually caught the vole. The reason the shutter speed is so high is that exposure compensation was accidentally set to 0 instead of +1 so I had to adjust the exposure in post-processing.

Canon 5D3, EF 600 mm F/4 II
1/8000s, F/4, ISO 400, 75% of Original.

Cheers,

Hisham.

I think that's the best single shot I've seen so far.  Well done.

Hisham - one of the finest "pounce" shots I've seen. Just about perfect. One could argue for a TOUCH more space on the left (ahead) of the fox, but this is so good as presented I hesitate to even suggest a tweak.

Nice.  This is more of the classic jump I was hoping to get, but I never had one occur at the right angle.  You nailed the action, Hisham.

Hi Hisham,

Very appealing shot and my comments parallel the others so I won't repeat. Bit of a shame about the OOF bushes along the lower edge of the frame, but that's a pretty minor thing. If those bushes weren't there it would be great to have a bit more foreground. My only other comment is that to me the frame feels just a bit tight - and going hand-in-hand with that is that I agree with John that having perhaps a bit more room on the left would add to the shot. But please consider these "in a perfect world" comments only - the shot is very strong exactly as posted.

Cheers...

Brad

Thanks for the comments! John and Brad, I do have extra space ont the left and on top. The only disadvantage is that the fox looks lower in the frame which makes the leap a little less impressive. Let me know what you think!

Cheers,

Hisham.
