Checking the air

Coyote, canis latrans:

When a coyote suddenly comes upon you and the wind is in your favor and you're fully camouflaged, you may have a few seconds to observe some behavior. It was snowing and the breeze was shifty. This coyote has seen me but a coyote only trusts his nose and as you see he is testing the air. He had actually trotted about 10 m past me. Nikon D300, Sigma 150-500 mm lens shot at 500 (750) actually, 1/160 sec at F10.

I forgot to add; the lone willow branch leads right into the coyotes jaw line, not much I could do about that unfortunately.

Nice pose Michael. The snow adds some charm to the frame.

Really like teh falling snow in this one. Perhaps a little more room on top if you have it. Well done.

Thank you all for the kind words. I do wish I could have framed it better but was just a bit too excited to zoom down a bit.

Pleasing capture, Michael. Given the direction of his gaze, I would hope for some more space on top for him to look into.  The falling snow is a fine enhancement.

Thank you Lon, I agree on your points, I am at sometimes very slow to improve the framing as the shot happens. The nose went up to scent the air and was down again in an instant. It's exciting at close range to be sure. Thanks again for your input.
