Crouching Lynx

What I like about this shot is the crouch, not often seen if you see lynx at all. The lynx held this pose for only a few seconds and turning his gaze away from me was an added bonus. Nikon D4, Nikkor 200-400 mm VR, shot at 400 mm, ISO 500, 1/200 sec, at F8. I also warmed this photo up a bit and intensified the color using ACR. The day was overcast and even the snow on the ground the light was dull.

Michael,
I have no idea how rare a sighting of Lynx is in the US, but if it is the same as Europe then this is very rare indeed.
The pose is perfect, the background is not perfect but that again is very rare.
Great capturedevil

Nice shot.  Good tones in the white surroundings.  Well done.

Thank you Ken and Elizabeth. Ken I forgot to add my location. This was taken in Alberta Canada, about a 140 km west of Edmonton.

Michael: what a fine shot. The pose, techs and composition are spot on. The natural frame made by the tree trunk and branch really set the lynx off. Congrats! Richard

Cool to capture such an elusive subject...and the natural framing of the surroundings is a nice bonus.

Thank you Lon. The bush lynx inhabit is dense, all too often a branch or piece of underbrush mars the photo.

Awesome to get this species in the wild Michael, beautiful detail and pose.  Since he is looking to the right, if you have more room on the right I might include that and crop a bit from the left to move him out of the center just a bit.  devil Welcome to NPN, I have enjoyed seeing your posts.

Thank you for the kind words and input Nate. My composition seems to be a recurring theme in the comments I receive. Obviously I need to address this more. And I will.

Pretty remarkable image, Michael! Very nice work on the exposure and snow and a lovely capture of the lynx. I tend to agree with Nate's suggestion re decentering a bit if you have the option...if you don't have more pixels on the right side of the frame, cropping from the left and bottom might make this even stronger, but I like the foreground branch/sapling disappearing into the snow vs running off the bottom so unsure on that suggestion. angel  Welcome to NPN!

Thank you John, and I remember your son's image. I'm going to post another lynx shot shortly. I think you'll like it.

Really nice image.  My only shots of lynx are through a screen of branches or brush. They are very intense critters.
