Steady Hands

This young lady lay in the shadows as the sunset, so there was not much light around.
This shot was taken with the aid of a torch and a firm grip on the camera.
Khwai Community, Botswana
EOS 1DX hand-held
200-400 mm F4 at 560 mm
F5.6
ISO 3200

The sharpness, evident in the larger image, is incredible. Even at 560 mm, with the tele-converter engaged, that 200-400 lens is simply wonderful. I feel the same way about mine. Also, even with the high ISO, there is no noise. The 1DX is living up to its reputation for high ISO performance. The image is very warm and it may be representative of what you saw. I would tweak the white balance ever so slightly and see if there is an improvement. Well done.

That's impressive sharpness for hand-held at 1/40!  Very nice.

Ken: incredible clarity and detail especially given your shutter speed. The torch has added just a bit too much warmth which is easily remedied. Great otherwise and congrats!! Richard

Interesting effects, Ken.  I agree that reducing warmth on the subject would make it feel more natural.  I like the perfectly crisp whiskers you obtained with 1/40!
