We got our first good snowfall of winter last week, so I took the morning off work and did some hiking and shooting. This image features a beech tree adorned with leaves and fresh snow. Beech trees hold many of their leaves through winter. Mill Creek Park, Youngstown. D600, 24-70 @ 55, f11, 1/250, iso 400. Thanks for looking. Suggestions, critiques, and other comments welcome. crying

You had me fooled, I though this was one of Albert's photos! The touch of yellows is a great detail, and I really like this! One small nit would be that the distance from last tree to the edge of the frame is slightly larger on the left side than the right sight, and that is a bit of a distraction for me. So I would probably do a very slight crop from the left. Not a big deal though, this is great as is!

I too really like the touch of yellow; that's pretty amazing they hold their leaves that long.

Scott,

Oh, those winter wonderland conditions!  Have to agree with early comments how the yellow leaves make the image.  That poor tree though, it's like it's burdened with heavy snow rather than adorned.... enlightened

I like the framing with the trunks on either side, and the space you've given the composition to allow the little tree to be center stage.  I think Roel has a good observation about the space left and right, but that's minor.

Nice job with exposure, color and processing!

That bit of warm color with the beech leaves is a real attention getter, Scott. It sets the table for the scene. Beautiful image.

Scott, This is very nice! It has that special winter feel that I always enjoy so much during or just after a fresh snowfall. Wonderfully natural looking with an excellent exposure. I can see the slight crop of the left but very minor overall.

As others have said, the yellow leaves really make this one. It really shows the onset of winter. Very nicely done.

The warmth to the beech tree with its leaves makes a great focal point here, Scott.  Having it surrounded by the trunks of the taller trees works very well as framing.  I also like that the beech is not centered in the frame.

Hi Scott,
This image works very nice for myself. I enjoy the tree trunks framing up hte beech tree, and those yellow leaves are just beautiful with the freshly fallen snow.

some very nice work

Scott,
Lovely image. Those yellow leaves covered in snow are a strong visual element. Beautiful as rendered but I might play around with burning down the bright strip of foreground snow.
