Pondering the Details

Thanks for your comments on my previous image! Here's another from my archive. There are some very nice Ponderosa Pines in El Capitan Meadow in Yosemite Valley, and I always take a look at these majestic trees for interesting details. I decided on a square crop this one.

Very nice. I like the orange-black contrast, and the details give this an abstract-like quality. Well done!

Looks almost like a puzzle and its pieces.  Nice work.

Preston,

Ahhh, those magnificent Ponderosas!  So inviting it's easy to understand why you seek these out.   I like Mark's interpretation as I too can see this as puzzle pieces; but also as a close up of a single puzzle piece. Nice balance between the charred and un-charred bark, nicely arranged.

The only suggestions I have would be to tone down the highlights.  There's almost like a high-gloss glare in the UL, as well as the "teardrop" of bark in the center.  Not a detraction per se, but something I think maybe a TK Lights TP might be worth checking.

A terrific addition to your bark collection!

Very nice, PB. I would agree with Lon's suggestion, especially along the left edge. Cool patterns and color.

That is one weird abstract pattern on that tree. Love it!! Maybe slightly burn the ulc? The square crop works extremely well for this image.

Interesting contrast between the bark and the burn. I kind of like those glossy highlights, although they do make it look like somebody put a gloss coating on.

Great abstract of this yin-yang alternative. I do agree on the suggestion to tone down the highlights locally. Very nice interplay of large and small structures. The smaller view does not do it justice. The larger view really shows it. Very nice.
