9 Bft

Maybe hard to believe that we struggled against 9 Bft on the western shore of Sylt  - the offshore storm let the sea appear rather calm, while the sand was blown across the shore.

Sylt, Germany, January 2016.

Comments and critique are appreciated.

Hi Peter, an image very much to my liking and taste. This looks very artsy in the best sense.
Besides the composition and subject matter, I like the texture of the sand in particular.
Very good work.

Completely agree with Dietrich about this one. I really like the simplicity and the atmosphere of this photo!

I like this a lot, Peter. Very simple, yet not so. Just curious how this would look just a bit brighter and with a bit more contrast? That's not a nit: I am just wondering. I like the various bands of color and texture.

Nice simplicity.  I too wonder how it might look bumped up a little bit with a levels adjustment.

Peter, I'm very much enjoying the feel / mood this image has. You did a great job with the composition and different sections included here. The blowing sand works great and I really like the textures there. Would probably work well with the suggestions from Preston and Mark as well, but that could change the mood and you may not want that. Nice work!

Peter,

Admittedly, this image didn't engage me... but then that can often be a viewers ignorance.  I mean, why does a photograph have to be engaging without having been there to experience the elements.  This is now just a single dimensional thing.  But we often say how much "simple is almost always a good thing," and that applies here.  Understated, yet tells a story and I think could belong to a large series of images of this type.

IMHO, messing with the contrast would also mess with the understated presence.  This is one that grows on the viewer.

Lon

ps.  I had to google the BFT....  learn something every day. ;-)

I am really enjoying this. Very understated. BFT I also had to google. I never heard the term.

I love this Peter; an image that would work oh so well printed huge in a sparse room. I agree to leave as is; chasing more dynamic range would remove some of the mood.

Hi Peter,

The image beautifully captures the feel of the day with the  mellow mood of the light. This would be a great image to take in large. I believe when seen large, the wind blown sand can really be felt, and I can really feel lick I am there with you enjoying the view. I like the image as presented because anything else would possibly loose the essence of what you are trying to convey.
