Winter's Bounty

Good day Y'all,

I just got back home last night after meeting up with Nick Bristol in Door County Wisconsin. We had a great time talking about photography, driving around, and of course shooting photography. At one point, Nick and I both agreed we had to be a little crazy to be a nature photographers. We said this as we stood outside waiting for the sunset with 20-30 mph winds and temperatures around -30 degrees, lol. Anyways, this image was from that night, and we both saw this scene from the road, and wanted to capture it around sunset. This is my vision of the scene we both saw, and I hope y'all like it. This scene was captured on the road into Peninsula State Park.

Comments and thoughts are always appreciated

This view, like NIck's, looks quite chilly, Ryan, but very enjoyable.  The color change above and below that cloud is amazing and the near silhouettes of the trees and grasses makes a fine foreground.

Beautiful Ryan!  I love the grouping of these trees - not so many they block the beautiful sky and sunset, but enough to really add a wonderful element to the scene.  I really like how the sun is strategically placed at the top of the sappling.  Colors are wonderful!

To me, there is a pretty clear ccw rotation to this you might want to straighten out before printing.  Otherwise, this is just beautiful.

Beautiful! Nice exposure control in that sky too. I'd level the horizon and call it a winner!

Ryan, Looks like a place I once was when it was really, really cold! This looks great! You did an excellent job controlling the light and I love the color. Horizon a bit tilted as mentioned but other than that this is wonderful. Really nice work on this!
Glad you made it back safe. Look forward to the next time!

Great layers of tones and color. I agree about the need for a rotation. Cool image!

It looks like you and Nick had a great trip, Ryan. Even though this does look cold the warm colors in the scene make this very inviting. I also like your use of layers along with your placement of the sun in the image. This is very nicely done.

Not the most obvious choice maybe to include the small trees as silhouettes, but I really like how that turned out. Also a sweet placement of the sun, a small detail that reveals that you clearly gave this comp some thinking! Good job on controlling the DR too, everything looks clear without an unnatural look at all.

Such a gorgeous scene, with the delicate weeds and grasses in the foreground and against the sky. The colors are also simply a beautiful mix of warm and cool. It does look chilly! I am wondering if it is just me or is the horizon tilted a bit on the left side.

Very cool image with intense color. I'm assuming that snow and not sand. Ditto the horizon. Good work

Hi  Ryan  crying  Wonderfull layers of  color and form.    the  shrubs and grasses  work perfectly in the foreground    agree about a rotation.
