Break on Through

This is my homage to the Doors. Seeing my brother's post from Shenandoah made me think that I had not posted anything from there for awhile so I thought now would be a good time. I had seen crepuscular rays before, but this is the only time I have seen them radiate upward and downward at the same time.

As always thanks for taking a look and leaving a comment or suggestion.

Me too, Ed. Can't say I recall seeing this happen with the sun breaking through top & bottom of a cloud formation in the past. An interesting happenstance and a good catch.......laugh

Oh wow, what a glorious display of crepuscular rays! I have seen them going up and down, but never at the same time! I really like the difference in the sky above and below the main cloud. Adds a lot of drama to this gorgeous photo.

I'm wondering why just the sky by itself is often considered a weaker composition. I like the current composition but the upper 2/3's is carrying it. A composition without any horizon, just the blue clouds is very pleasing to me.

Wow, some beautiful and unique lighting conditions. The comp works well but the downward rays are especially nice. I think a horizontal crop would also work well.

That is some wonderful light, Ed. The rays of light are really nice and pretty cool going below and above the clouds both. I think a horizontal crop of the lower part also would work very nice, as Dave mentioned.

What an interesting composition.  I look at this image and think of a mirrored images of good and bad demonstrated through nature.  I like the calming hues in the lower portion.  I would prefer the upper portion removed , but then it would be another beautiful sunset.  Just a personal opinion, but definitely an image that stimulates the mind.

Ed,

What a glorious moment! And great title too!

Not much to improve on here, but perhaps some selection techniques to enhance the rays?   I'm not thinking about increasing contrast in the clouds either.  It's too bad you weren't on the next ridge over to offer an unobstructed view of the far landscape, but I guess this will just have to do. ;-)

Ed, there a fine sense of spaciousness here.  It has the feeling of an inspirational poster, with it's emphasis on the sky and the crepuscular rays.

A beautiful and uplifting capture of a moment in time Ed. The hint of fall color along the bottom is a nice way to anchor this image, and the sweet sun rays make this image special. Also, I enjoy the color and textures in the clouds.
Beautiful work
