Snowy Owl

Unfortunately not from this year.  Our last irruption of any size was in 2011-2012, but I was going through my looking for images to meet the Weekly Challenge and thought these were singularly appropriate, so I processed one for the challenge and another for the Avian Gallery.  It's turned away from the wind in this one, but still has a pretty cold feel to me.  It's a fair crop, but even though it was a very cooperative subject, I didn't feel like I should get too close.

1D4, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Jobu Gimbal on Gitzo legs, f/11, 1/1000, iso 400, manual exposure.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 6.2 MP before resizing.  Taken January 11th, 2012 at 10:56 AM.  Location was Damon Point near Ocean Shores, WA.

Comments and criticisms are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,

Nice catch.  The feather detail looks good.  I like the one eye, it's "eye catching" (oooo sorry).  Would prefer the bare branch on the left gone or clone the bark onto that area.

I do like the one eye aspect of this image.  Sets it off very well.  Nice details and color in the owls plumage.  Thanks for sharing.

Excellent detail of a very relaxed seeming SO. The bright eye is a good feature and I like the very neutral BG. I don't know but what I wouldn't lose the frame, or at least divide it from the image with a black pinstripe.devil

Really nice, Dennis. I like the look back with one eye, and the whites are right on. I've never been lucky enough to see one of these in the wild.  Well done!

I like this one better than the other angle and really like how that foot sticks out
