Red stags are relatives to the American wapiti and in many years of hiking here in Germany in our forest I only saw once them in the wild.

Fortunately many of the wild parks in Germany have them and especially in the rooting season they behave very natural and even can get dangerous to the visitors of the parks.

I made this image many years ago in the "Hochwildschutzpark Hunsrück" close to my home. It was a moody, foogy autumn day and that is what I liked about this picture.

CONTAX RTS III, Sigma APO 4.5/500, F5.6, 1/125s, Sensia 100, tripod

Scanned with NIKON Coolscan 5000ED, Photoshop curves, sharpening, resizing, full frame

Nose in the air and a little velvet on the antlers, ready for action.  Fascinating image.  Nice detail in the head and neck.  I like the blurred BG.
