Curves

I scouted this location on the Owens River last month and then returned on a couple of mornings for sunrise. On the second attempt I was fortunate to experience a beautiful pink sunrise.

You've really knocked it out of the park with these Eastern Sierra light show images, Dave. My only nit on this one would be to clone away (not crop as that would make the S curve too tight to the right edge) the intruding white object in the LRC/edge. Kudos for the whole series!

You sure got the timing right on this - the magic moment just before sunrise.  Great use of the meander bend as well.

I'll have to say though, as a hydrologist, I'm more impressed with the condition of the riparian area.   That looks really good.  Whose ground is it on?

Dave, this is really beautiful, and I prefer this comp over the one you posted earlier with the big grasses in front. This gives me a good clear look at the curving river and its gorgeous reflection, plus enough of the peach colored grasses in front to draw me in. What a glorious spot this is, and you have portrayed it so well.

Beautiful light and color, Dave, and your choice of shutter speed works well.  The meander and high horizon are framed nicely for this.  I agree with Dave about the bottom RHS.

Wow, this is great Dave. The pastel colors, the sweeping S curve of the stream, the fall colors of the shrubs come together for a great photo.devil

The large version is a must see here as well. The precision of all the strands of grass in the fg is a big part of the beauty and it's less evident in the smaller version. I've looked at this for quite a bit and can't come with any suggestions that I don't change my mind about. I think a crop to remove the left up to the blue fg grass would improve this image. It would make the bottom of the river more balanced somehow. It's a wonderful image. I know a photographer that flyfishes this section and comes up with stunning images during all seasons.

This is really sweet, Dave.  I had an opportunity to fish here a couple years ago and was overwhelmed by the beauty and the tough to catch fish.  You captured a wonderful moment and essence of this place.  The only thing I could suggest would be to lose the dead tree on the left by cropping it out.  Not sure it would be an improvement. But something to contemplate. Beautifully done.

Looks like a stormy morning on the East Side! I like this a lot. The river meander works really well here, and leads the eye nicely. I agree about cloning that bit of stuff on lhe lower right edge. The color and the light are very nice, indeed.

Sweet pastel colors and I love the way that meandering S curve in the river draws me into the scene. Stunning image, Dave.

Just stunning Dave!  As already commented, you've been knocking these out of the park with the Eastern Sierra images.  Gorgeous color.  The large version also reveals the wonderful textures and colors in the water.

Only minor suggestion to seal the deal on this one would be to clone/crop to eliminate the minor distraction LRC edge.  Otherwise, a masterpiece!

I really love the composition and angle which you have taken this shot. The capturing of the various textures and colours are wonderful. I don't find the LRC an issue as it tends to offset the darker tree trunks on the left edge. I find the darker hill before the mountains on the URC a bit of a distracting draw though.

Thanks all for all the comments/input on this image. I missed the dirt cliff edge protruding in the LRC and have now cloned out. Definitely my favorite image so far for 2016. I think this is the best from this morning shoot but I did capture a couple of nice verticals and a horizontal a bit later with light on the Sierra which I will post later.

Hi Dave,

This is just killer good my fellow photographer. The color palette in this image is so divine, and the curve in the foreground really brings myself into the frame and through the frame beautifully. This image is just awesome Dave, and I would print this one out and hang it proudly on my wall.

Superb work in photography  devil

Truly spectacular, Dave.  Love all the shades of pink to purple, the reflections and the big S curve of the river.

Dave, this image is a stellar look at the sunrise characteristics as seen around the Owens Valley. In this case the inclusion of the river curve is a real plus. The warmth of this scene during this winter view is excellent. Although I've shot in the sierras forever, I admit to only shooting the river itself on one outing. Nicely done all around.
