Muddy Paws    Muddy Snout

This female mother Grizzly Bear was raising Triplet Cubs . She was into the water and searching for food, when she emerged her feet and snout had mud caked on them. The three cubs were very busy and came together only slightly and then off again investigating the surroundings. The cub shown here is giving me The-Eye , with white sclera showing. The tide was incoming and would soon cover this small island. Raining with cloud cover , floating in Zodiac boat with the tide. The Captain had stepped out while waters were not too deep to secure our vantage for a short while by stabilizing the zodiac stationary.  An Amazing encounter in the Great Bear Rainforest of Northern BC Canada for about 45 minutes before the rising tide forced the bears to abandon the small island.

Great capture you managed here. Was this a focus stack? I am surprised you got the front and rear bear in such sharp focus at f5.6. Regardless, a wonderful image.

Hello Jerry  ... Great to get your feedback! No stack, just selective focus. The rear guy is very borderline focus.

Thanks     Bill

Bill: I really like the languid look on the parent and the alert look on the cub. A bit more depth of field would have been nice, but I'm not sure what the D 600 is capable of in that regard. Nicely done.  Richard

You've got detail for days and the DOF is perfect.  I like the lazy look and the curiousness of the cub

I do wish the one cub was looking towards the camera, but to get all four bears looking at you would be a great feat!  As it is it is a very impressive image.  I like the look on the mother bear, as well as the color you captured.  A good look at the environment provided by the BG.  Thanks for sharing.l

Bill,
The "disinterested" looks are what makes this special, EXCELLENT!

Her attitude makes the shot.  I agree more depth of field would have enhanced the youngster a bit, but you have handled processing very well.

Hello   and Great to get the Feedback.

During this time I attempted several settings with F stop & Shutter speeds . We were very quiet within the boat and the attempt at !/160 was a challenge to capture and attempt to get ISO lower.  We anchored in the Inlet overnight and went looking for them early next morning but, they had moved away . It was a very memorable experience and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing them all together doing very well late into  their first season!

Congratulations.  The disinterested look of the mother caught my attention.  Seems to be another lazy day for her, or finally time to rest.
