I was driving the backroads one afternoon this summer when a mountain bluebird couple caught my eye as they chased flies near a bee farm (after many views through the binoculars, I realized I never once saw them with a bee as their catch, only the traditional fly species they prey on). While I was waiting for the bluebirds to return from one of they forays, this Savannah Sparrow landed on a nearby weathered old fence post and kept me company (and kept me busy following him around with the 500mm).
I wasn't able to pull off enough depth of field at this proximity with the big lens to get the entire hoop of wire in sharp focus, but I still liked the rustic/country feel it added. Yes, that's an OOF bee hive in the background behind the sparrow...wasn't particularly excited about that unfortunate alignment, but hey, it adds a splash of colour!
