A disappearing world...

Perhaps a more 'poignant' image from me this time, as I felt the fragmenting pack ice symbolised the disappearing environment and the Polar Bears stance, one of sadness & desperation for this endangered species.

Personally I would have liked to be even more above the bear, (more of a helicopter POV) but this was standing right on the furthest point of the bow.

Thanks to those who viewed and or commented on the previous posting.

Very powerful and evocative image, Steve. Beyond the strong message the image conveys, you've put together an extremely pleasing comp that both drives the message home as well as delivers great graphical balance. Definitely a special piece here.

I like the message and emotion this photo delivers Steve. The comp you chose also creates an urgency as the ice is disappearing right before the bears feet. Nicely done.

Nice, thoughtful shot.  Sums it up nicely.  You don't get the opportunity to pull all that together very often and you made the most of it.  Congratulations.

This has strong emotional impact, Steve.   I like the subtle details of visible feet and angle of downturned head, as if he/she is examining the crumbling ice.  Positioning of the bear and locations of ice edges and cracks make for a strong composition, too.  Well done. devil

Fantastic image, great composition and angle - the reality of it makes me a bit sad, but beautiful shot.
