Kingfisher...the standard thing...
by Jasper Doest
Hi all,
I just got back from spending two days in a hide in the snow, photographing kingfishers. I wanted to get something less standard but the circumstances were far from ideal, bad light and the birds weren't as cooparative as I hoped for as they refused to fly back on the perch with a fish. So...all I could do was add some more standard poses to my files. Here's a shot of the female bird. I'm posting from my laptop so the colors and brightness might be a bit off.

Great shot!!
I really love the colours in this bird, and find it to be one of the most beautifull, andd rare native birds in Holland.
We had an "ijsvogel" (kingfisher) in Harmelen where i live, and i took some shots with my 300mm F5.6 a couple of years ago, and therefore i was not able to get really close, and the shots came out crappy. Then i heard he flew against a window somewhere a couple of weeks ago and died...so unfortunately i won't be able to make shot's like yours any more, and i just have to hope for a new bird to arrive, or find me a new place to shoot them. Got any suggestions?
Hope to see more of this series in the future!
Kind regards,
Jeroen Stel
