One last image of the encounter of the vole and the Egret.  I hesitated to post this one because it feels a bit disturbing to me, but at the same time the interaction of the vole and egret makes it feel like a powerful image to me.

7D2, Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary @ 600mm, bean back on car window, f/7.1, 1/5000, iso 400, aperture priority, pattern metering, -2/3 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 9.5 Mpixels before resizing.  Taken at Ridgefield NWR December 230th at 11:37 AM.

I appreciate your comments on the last two posts of this encounter and look forward to your input on this one.

Thanks,

Ah, the beauty of nature.....  Does tug at the heart strings a bit, but nature in it's true form.  I find it more disturbing when a heron walks the beach snapping up hatchlings.
Another nice photo, Dennis.  The whites look good, the background is clean, and the colors look true.  Well done!

I don't have a problem with portraying predation, even though it may be graphic.  I think revealing behavoir is one of the more important and educaitonal functions that we, as photographers, can preform.  Evolution has provided egrets with long, sharp bills. It's interesting to see how they use them.  Congratulations on an excellent shot.

A tragic end of the series, the vole seems to try and convince the heron to let it go, but to no avail I assume. I'm always a little soft on these issues, but it's nature as it is.. Nice series, thanks for showing ! Cheers, Hans
