Eyes of a King

A close up portrait of a male Lion captured in Northern Kruger, South Africa. This has about a 10% crop mainly just to improve composition. The look in his eyes called for a tight portrait to focus attention in his stare. Maybe I should have posted it in Macro .... enlightened

Wow, the very definition of intense! Love it, and the small scars on the nose add to the don't-mess-with-me message. Great image.

I think the tight crop was an excellent choice.  I'm not a big fan of lions (much prefer leopards), but staring into those eyes is always a bit unnerving.  This shot certainly conveys that feeling.

It does get your attention.  I wonder how those scars got there/

Great details and killer eyes! The quality of image is superlative!
I was just wondering, how it would have looked, if you had a horizontal frame.angel

Hi Mario,

A very compelling shot! I like the close crop and agree it's a toss-up if you should have posted it here or in Macro! enlightened

This is in no way a criticism, but I did find that my eyes went to the facial scars BEFORE they went to the lion's eyes (and they lingered far longer on the scars).

Cheers...

Mesmerizing, Mario! Must confess I keep thinking this would look fabulous in B&W, but how do you strip the colour out of those incredible eyes? The rich, warm tones throughout are too wonderful to lose I think (but it really would be a stunner in monochrome, too). enlightened

Those eyes are mesmerizing Mario. They caught my eye immediately. Nice work and good decision on this crop.
