A Bad Day

The vole seemed to have a pretty disgusted look in this frame.  I was surprised at how much shifting of the prey in its beak the Egret went through.  Sometimes, like this, it barely had a grip at all.

7D2, Sigma 150-600 Contemporary at 562mm, beanbag on car window, f/7.1, 1/5000, iso 400, aperture priority, pattern metering, -2/3 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped from top and left to a 4x5 format.  Final size 13.9 Mpixels before resizing.  Taken at 11:37 AM on December 30th.

I appreciate your comments on the previous Egret post and look forward to your input on this one.

Thanks,

Hi Dennis,

That is a very large vole and it seems to be having a very bad day. This one has a stronger impact than your other version. I like the composition and the detail in egret and vole is pretty good.  Well donedevil.....................Jim

Bad for the vole maybe.  For predation shots like this, I like having only part of the bird because it forces you to concentrate on the prey a little more. Well planned and executed.

Nice catch, Dennis. Not a happy vole, and the whites and darks all look good. Background looks good also. 150-600 looks like it's working for you.

A vole roll.  I like the way they appear to be staring each other in the eye.  The whites are perfectly exposed here.  Great BG.

The whites look pretty good on this image also Dennis. You have had some pretty good results with that new Sigma lens. The bokeh looks smooth and the detail in the Egret is very sharp. Too bad for the vole though...any more?  Nice work!  devil
