Tug In - Storm Out

Taken at Valdez, Alaska. It was clearing up after a winter storm of rain, snow and slush.  What looks like ice on the salt water is actually just floating slush (it definitely wasn't cold enough to freeze the salt water).  Weather transitions almost always provide the best landscape opportunities!   The gulls are always flying around at the waterfront so all I had to do was wait patiently for one to fly into the frame to provide a little bonus for the image cool

View large for a stronger sense of presence.

The sunlit peaks and their reflections are my favorite part of this, Gary.  The tug and it's lights really show up well in the larger version.  The cooperative gull is a fine addition as well.

Very nice light Gary with the darker FG and the sunlit mountains.  I've only been to Alaska once (Kenai area) but I was really amazed with its wildness.  I am enjoying the comp here.

Very dramatic shot Gary; like the sun-lit mountains in the distance and the clouds.  The fog bank adds a sense of mystery to the whole scene.  Glad you waited on that gull; he adds a lot to the overall scene.

Gary, What a great job you did capturing this image, and the large version is just wonderful to view! The light on the peaks and then the reflections really look nice. Waiting for that gull was a very good decision on your part...it worked out great because you were ready for it. Nice work Gary!

I really like this one, Gary.  The light on the top of the mountains is great as is the ship in the foreground.  My only nit is that I wish there was more separation between the stern of the tug and the dock.
