I think this really and truly is the last of the B/W series for this gallery.  This is a place more often appreciated for its colorful rocks, but I wanted to try a BW conversion on it.  I'm thinking of a sub-series involving roads and tire tracks. Let me know if this works and as always, feel free to offer copious suggestions on composition, contrast, and offhanded "ain't working" kinds of comments.

I think your choice of going for a strong contrast works well for the feeling you wanted to convey here, but I would like to see a bit more detail in the darkest blacks. Minor nit though, this looks really inviting to me! Especially the rays in the sky are sweet, as well as the interplay between the darker clouds to the left, and the smaller and much lighter cloud on the right.

Marylynne,
Thank you for posted these evocative shots. I really like how open you are to feedback.  I cannot edit my own images and while I have favorites they are often not those others in my orbit favor.  I like the way the road carries my eyes into the image and the possibility the mountain in the gap presents.  It makes me wonder, "Does the road continue around to the left, or does it turn to the right in an area we cannot see in front of the mountain on the right?"  I am sorry I cannot give you better technical feedback.

Thanks, Roel and Patrick.  I'll tinker with the blacks.
Patrick: the road curves to the left and then quickly back to the right to go between the two hillsides and toward the more distant rock formation.

The strong contrast works well here in this image. Also the black and white conversion is just perfect for this image. Maybe a tad more details in the darkest blacks would be nice. But otherwise I love it as posted

An impressive dynamic range, though it seems the very dark ridge lines are too dark compared to the other nearby rock.  Love the sky sun rays.

Thanks folks.  Sorry it took so long to get back to this one....holidays and all, ya know.  I lifted the shadow areas a bit. The tonal difference was a result of color differences: these rocks are yellow and red, and the red is much darker.  In color, that works, in B/W, not so much.  Let me know if this is enough or whether I should boost the shadows further.  I'll share a color version also for comparison.
