....I just know that ball will come out of its nest.

Thought I would share a shot my dog, Piper, who loves to play in the snow and pretend that the ball is a rodent in a hole so she can catch it over and over and over again.

Cute! Love the focused look and even without your description I was pretty sure there was something in that snow hole!

From a photographic perspective...I think in this case a centered composition works just fine here. While I think the horizontal composition is fine, a vertical (with a closer crop if you have the pixels to support it) could work as well.

My fuzz-dudes wear the exact same orange reflective vests whenever walking with me!

Thanks for posting in Man & Fauna!

Cheers...

Marylynne,

I like the stare of your dog which signals that it is waiting for something. Also the low photography position is very nice. As Brad said, a vertical and a bit closer zoom would have been fine as well, as I think also a position more to the right to have avoided the wall in the background. Technically a good image from sharpness and exposure point of view.

I would like to thank you as well for posting in this new gallery.

Oh my, what a cutie Piper is!  The direct/hard lighting is handled well and I like the detail in the frosty snoot.  I'd love to see this one BIG!

Nothin' like a snow beard to let you know what's going on here! Nice low angle, excellent exposure, and a really cute pup. Pretty amazing what dogs will do in the snow.  I know I couldn't lay belly down like that for very long!

Thanks everyone.  She is a funny gal, loves the snow, and yes, I make her wear this ridiculous orange vest when off-leash in Central Oregon.  There are lots of hunters with trigger fingers, and she looks like a cross between a coyote and a jack rabbit most of the time.  The "wall" is actually our old outhouse.  We still use it occasionally ;-).

Here is a new version, a  vertical 8x10.

Marylynne,

the tighter crop works very well to me and focuses the viewer straight to the main subject. The "wall" ( please excuse, but English is not my native language enlightened ) get less dominat and therefore that benefits the image composition as well.

I too prefer the tighter, vertical crop.  Yes to the orange vest, I'd do the same if we ever let our two off-leash anywhere other than our own yard.

She looks to be about 30 pounds in size?

Thanks, folks.

Cay-Uwe: I hope you didn't take my quotation marks as a criticism of your English.  Indeed, it is the wall of an outhouse ;-).
Jim: She is about 20-22 lbs, depending on how good she's being.  She has a bigger dog heart and spirit though.

A very neat image, Marylynne.  The description is hilarious and the obvious focus of the dog is great.  I too think the vertical works better as there really isn't anything on the sides that adds to the image.
