Lamar Valley

On my only trip to Yellowstone in May 2013, I spent a late morning along Lamar Valley. Cropped equally from FG and BG.

Nice textures and layers. I am on the fence with the sky. In a way, this would be more abstract without it, but this does work. The soft light gives this a nice, quiet mood.

Bill,

A very quiet and tranquil image.  Not an eye-popping landscape, but  understated and enjoyable to look at.

I actually like the elongated composition with the ridge and treeline as well as the water going edge to edge. I say that because if I was to suggest anything, it would be a slight crop from the bottom.  Not so much that you intrude on the little pool of water, but maybe cutting the difference in half?  I think a little more pano presentation would work nicely.  Just a thought.

I have fished the Lamar many times, Bill, and this brings back many pleasant memories.  I really like the understated colors and the soft light.  I think if it were mine I would crop the sky, it's just a little tight for me.  Lovely image.

Very bucolic, pastoral ... not your typical iconic grand scenic composition from Yellowstone.  It's always nice to see something different.  I like the subdued light, and the mostly horizontal lines and curves.  The small body of water in the lower left adds an element of interest.  Thanks for posting this one.

I think a landscape many of us just go by. I think you did a good job composing this scene. I'm not quiet sure about the sky...I think it would be even more abstract without the sky. But this is nice as presented.

I really like the even lighting here along with your placement of the water, Bill. I think this would also work as a pano with a small crop from the bottom and a crop of the sky. Jusst my opinion of course. The peaceful mood this evokes is also very nice.
