Bob-white Quail

Since the challenge description specifically mentioned this species, I thought someone should post it.  This one is from Falcon State Park in Texas where they're pretty common visitors to the bird feed people throw out in their campsites.  I had some neighbors who had forgotten to pick up bird feed and all they had were some corn chip crumbs-oddly the birds flocked to their site much more readily than most and this image was taken from their picnic table.  I would have liked a lower angle, but I thought it would be a bit rude to ignore my hosts and drop to the ground to get a better shot.  Now if they'd been photographers....

7D2, 300mm f4 ISl + 1.4TC, hand held, f/5.6, 1/800, iso 800, aperture priority, center-weighted average metering.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 14.8 Mpixels.

Comments and criticisms are appreciated.

Thanks,

Nice look at this little guy.  I like the pose and that the quail is looking towards you.  Also like how the pattern in its feathers shows well.  Thanks for sharing.

Dennis, this is a fine look at this bird, excellent sharpness and detail in the bird plus a very complementary background.  I do agree that a lower angle would be nice, but sometimes even us photogs have to be civil...

The Quail of my youth, growing up in northwestern Illinois. They gave me more than one cardiac restart. You have a nice collection of upland gamebirds. Do you have any of the Ringtailed Pheasant the challenge description speaks of as well? (snicker). There are several nice shots of Ringed-necked Pheasants, but nary a Ringtailed.
Fine detail in the bird and I like the addition of the flower in the background.

Neil:  No "Ring-tailed", though there's a guy up the road that likes to raise exotic game birds so who knows what I might find thereenlightened.
