snug as a bug in a tree

Taken w/Canon EOS 7D w/Canon EFs 55-250 IS II
settings       f/5.6  1/60 ISO  400  250mm

Bright hazy day and this little Screech Owl was quite content to sit and let the day go by. I walked by him the first time and didn't notice him at all, but on the return trip the angle gave a slight hint to him, camouflaged as he was.

Jim,

that camoflage really works very good and I can imagine that real life that is more obvious. Overall I have the impression that the image looks a bit soft, altought well exposured. That may be the result of having not used IS, or the performance of the lens is not optimal at the choosen aperture. Just a guess enlightened

Wonderful find, Jim.  The whole image seems a bit soft and I'm not sure whether it's a focus issue or a bit of motion.  1/60 sec is pretty difficult to get sharp (I'll usually shoot a burst at that slow a shutter speed in hopes of one coming out crisp).  You might have gone higher in iso to get the shutter speed up a bit.  The 7D does get a little noisy, but you can get decent results up to about 800 with a little noise reduction.  All that said, just the wonderful illustration of owl camouflage makes this a really interesting image.

I agree on the image softness, also making a higher ISO choice for a faster shutter. Having said that, that sure is some good camouflage!cool

Hello Jim , despite the image not being that sharp, I so much like these kind of settings that it compensates for that ! Brings a smile tp my face ! Cheers, Hans
