July Hummingbird
by Dennis Plank
Looking through the old files again and I decided to process a couple more Rufous Hummingbird issues from a nice session on July 5th. I wish the Monarda had been in bettr conditions, but our weather turned dry very early this last summer and messed with a lot of our flowers.
7D2, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Jobu gimbal on RRS legs, f/6.3, 1/2500, iso 1000, aperture priority, pattern metering, -2/3 stop compensation (that white patch behind the eye likes to blow out on this species). Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 14.2 Mpixels in a 4x5 aspect ratio. Taken at 6:09 am on July 5th, 2015.
I appreciate all your comments and criticisms and look forward to your input on this image.
Thanks,

7 commentsvery nice light conditions and you isolated the bird very well from the background. Technically very good showing good details and exposure looks great as well.
CORRECTION: Jim, we had bad wildfires east of the Cascade Mountains this summer. When this was taken, the weather was bringing the smoke west. I could look directly at the morning sun and it was blood red. Sorry, I'd forgotten the situation when I first posted my explanation.
