A Little Fluff

Great Blue heron, fluffing it's feathers a bit.  From my June/July trip to Seabeck on Hood Canal, Washington.  I really liked the feathers in this one, and the pose was pretty decent.

7D2, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Jobu gimbal on RRS legs, f/6.3, 1/1250, iso 1000, pattern metering, manual exposure.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 15.5 Mpixels.  Taken at 7:18 am on June 30th.

Thanks for all your comments and criticisms.  I really appreciate the feedback.

Dennis,

well done, from the technical part as well from the composition. The "action" of the brid is of course a plus enlightened

More than a pretty decent pose, Dennis. The comp is nice and the raised foot gives it a sense of motion. The fluffed  feathers add  character and there's good detail in all the plumage. Pretty much noise free at ISO 1000.  I need to work on noise reduction with my 7D.  Not near as clean as this. Great shot!

Hi Dennis, good to keep the SS high, the darkish BKG helps emphasis the 'flexed' feahers/plumage here.

This is a real nice one Dennis!  Good color, pose is great, composition works well, good details and sharpness.  I also like that there are no distracting elements in the water.   Thanks for sharing.

Perfectly captured Dennis.  He is lined up so that the whole heron is sharp.  It is also nice to see the fluffed feathers and the raised foot.

Nice capture of this guy Dennis. That raised foot adds to the image. Nice work!
