Coastal Brown Bear
by Katie Jones
This image represents what happens when things seem to work out just the way you want them to. This is a female coastal brown bear I photographed in Lake Clark National Park, Alaska several years ago. She had been fishing in the tidal streams with her second-year cub for quite a while before they finally nailed a meal. While her cub finished off the remains of the salmon, momma walked up the slope of the beach and surveyed the area. The sunset, the backdrop, her pose... lets just say I was shooting furiously. I've struggled with getting the horizon line to appear strait in this image as the beach was very uneven, but hopefully I've leveled it for the most part. Thanks for looking!

Love the muted colours in the background, first class image
I REALLY like this one (and to my eye the horizon looks just fine). Beautiful "bearscape" with great lighting, great backdrop, and more. Love it.
My only even remotely negative comment is that I don't think this one needs to be presented in a pano-fashion (but, of course, because I have no way of knowing WHAT was cropped off I can't say this with certainty). This is primarily a personal preference issue in that these days panos seem to be everywhere (and I guess I'm growing just a tad tired of them!).
But great as presented - well done!
