I was looking through my older archives ten years ago for the original but couldn't find it. This is the mail hook that was on rail services contracted to the post office for mail retrieval while trains were in motion. Some online research found this interesting read on Wikipedia to railway post office https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Railway_post_office, which describes how the mail was brought on board and sorted.

Interesting image. Lots of different textures. Maybe if you could have shifted a bit to the left to show more of the writing on the train. TFS.

Lovely tones in this image, Bill, with the encroaching greenery nicely emphasising the dereliction. I actually like the crop with the incomplete texts and the glimpse of the roof - they give an abstract feel which takes this beyond the purely documentary.
