Inca Tern

In honor of "Movember," here's an Inca tern from my 2012 Peru trip.  I started the trip by visiting a rookery south of Lima, which afforded a few close-up opportunities as the terns came in to land briefly before taking flight again.

That red beak coming from all the grey is an eye grabber -- love the "moustache" and imaginative cropping

Max,

nice composition and technically well done. I especially like the pose of the head, since the bird looks very curious.

A species I would love to see one day, and this preview makes me even more hungry. Great details, fine composition as well. Awesome ! Cheers, Hans

I like the head turn, the title, the sharpness of the image and the crop.

Striking image, Max...and striking bird! Man that's some detail. Don't know if you added the burn or vignette on the right, but it's wonderful either way. Really cool.

The comp on this is awesome Max. Just the right amount of negative space and it seems as if the lens was already set up and pointed in this direction and the Tern decided to stick his head in your frame for a peek. Great shot!

Thanks, everyone.

John, no burning or vignetting added.  It's just the way it turned out with the crop, which was forced this tight due to distracting rocks on the edges of the frame.  When I originally published my gallery from this trip on my old site, I didn't even include this image, so I'm glad I gave it a second look.
