Moods of November 3 +rp

This is another in my Moods of November series. I shot this one early in the morning just as the first light hit these birch trees. I made this picture two days ago on Sunday morning about 15 miles from my home. I didn't find much to shoot that morning but was happy with this one as far as the November moods went. It kind of looks like it was toned but this is the color of that morning. A larger version included for a better look. Thanks and I appreciate all of your thoughts on the previous November images.

Creative use of light Nick! The skeletal look is excellent.

Love this one.  Great mood and as Dietrich put it, the skeletal look. I might try to darken the blue sky peaking through, but very minor stuff. Excellent image.

Very well seen Nick - great job of filling the frame.  Although very nice as presented, I see numerous possibilities, depending of course on you as the creator here.  B&W? The contrasts would work well there.  I can also see adding a little burning/vignetting around the edges emphasizing the light and branch structure in the upper portion of the trees. Simple and compact, along the lines of "order from chaos."

Very nice contrasty approach.  As Lon said, good material for BW.  Terrific shapes stand out well here.

This is starting to look like December Nick, lol. I really like the color scheme on this one with the various shades of brown and black. The skeletal composition is really attractive. A couple of comments: (1) I feel it needs a bit more space on top. Interestingly enough if you crop some of the top off and let the trees be cut by the frame that crowdedness goes away. (2) I feel that the tree stems are too white. I didn't think so at first until I looked at the trees at the far right and noticed how richer they were. I think that if all were more like that it might improve the overall impact. Just my thoughts. It really does capture well the starkness of winter.

Thanks Harley! I'm glad you are enjoying. Here is a version with the blue darkened and also some dodging around the top of the trees. Appreciate the help guys! I like this one even better and thinking now that I will try it as a print in my studio / gallery.

Nick,  awesome job with the rework!  Amazing how just a couple minor changes can make such a huge impact. This now even better than before!

Hi Nick,

I am really enjoying your moods of November series, and this one is sweet for it's graphic nature. The light on the birch trees really accentuates the structure of the trees, and i enjoy how the bottom of the scene starts off dark and transitions into light.  The minor changes make a nice difference in the repost, beautiful work Nick.

Sweet! Repost looks even better. The bright white trees seem to rise out of the dark forest, that looks great.

this really lovely graphic image. I may crop the top a little to make it even more abstract.

Hi Nick, I've been out of town for few days and missed this image.  I am glad that I went back through and found it.  The repost is very, very nice.  No suggestions from me except to print this one large and prominent.  Excellent.
