Hey Jessica,
Outstanding first post, well seen and presented. I would consider toning down the bright area in the background above the taller Mushroom, it competes with the white top center of the Mushroom and draws the viewers eye off the subject.
Look forward to seeing more of your work, Well done . . .  devil

Excellent first post, Jessica! Welcome to NPN. I see by your registration you jumped right in, a good sign, And you did well with the high ISO. I agree with Mike about the background. My experience with processing has led me to almost always separating the background and subject into separate layers, as I usually apply different treatments to both. I will make adjustments to the BG that I do not want to apply to the subject and vice versa.

Please jump into the critiquing end of this site as well. A critique doesn't have to be an essay. Sometimes just saying what you like is often enough.cool

Well composed for the two mushrooms and the surrounding forrest floor. I like the comp and the low, ground level perspective. Well done. I am curious as to why the pof (point of focus) is on the smaller shroom on the left and on the stick and left at the bottom of the image rather than the larger mushroom which appears to be the main subject. However, this works as presented and does bring more of the foreground into sharp focus. Thanks for sharing. Great to have you here posting images.  crying

I really like this composition Jessica. I think composing an image to make an impact is one of the most difficult problems in photography and you have achieved it here. I think I would have also taken the same image but removing the stick behind the mushroom which is a slght distraction although this may not turn out to be  better. Colour palette is excellent and if you could draw some more detail from the white areas so much the better. Graham

Hello Jessica, I like the eye level perspective and your composition. I also like the green color in the image. I agree with Graham about removing the stick behind the mushroom. Welcome to NPN!

Hi Jessica, welcome to NPN.  This is a neat view of these two mushrooms.  I especially like the overall warmth of the brown tones.  I do think that "cleaning out" the plant stems along the right side would be an improvement.  While I wish it weren't true, cleaning up a site (gently pulling those stems aside or out, with minimal disturbance) before taking a photograph is something that is often required if you're trying to get the "clean look" that most folks prefer.
